Almost extinct, only a handful of dairies in Norway still make Nokkelost. This Norwegian specialty cheese, made from partially skimmed cow's milk, is flavored with cumin seeds and cloves.  These herbal additions give Nokkelost a warm, spicy taste. Similar in concept to Dutch Leyden, although with a springier texture, Nokkelost is a festive cheese that is always a hit at parties. It partners very well with beer and wine, especially when served with dark breads, such as pumpernickel.

    While it took a longer than normal time to receive my order, (thanks to the issues with shipping over the holidays...with covid maxing out the shippers), my order was shipped two day air and arrived in time for Christmas. I married into a Norwegian family and it is a tradition that we gift Nokkelost at Christmas time. If you are a lover of this cheese, you know how hard it is to find. We have ordered in the past from IGourmet and this was the first time we ordered from this lovely Norwegian family in SC. This Nokkelost was the b BEST!!! Exactly like we used to get at the Norwegian deli in Brooklyn that came directly from Norway. We will definitely be ordering again. Sliced Nokkelost on a roasted English muffin fit breakfast will now become a yearlong tradition rather than just at holiday time. Do order from this family. They know what they are doing!!!!! Thank You.
