Tine Edamer Edam Cheese, 850g

Tine Edamer is a semi-hard yellow cheese produced by TINE, Norway’s leading dairy cooperative, and it’s essentially a Norwegian take on the classic Dutch Edam cheese.  This 850g block is a popular export item, often found in specialty Scandinavian food stores or online retailers catering to Norwegian products. 

It shares many traits with TINE’s Norvegia cheese—a mild, versatile everyday cheese—but Edamer is typically firmer in texture, with a slightly saltier and more tangy, sour flavor profile that gives it a distinctive edge.  The cheese has a smooth, creamy consistency when young, developing a nuttier undertone as it ages, though this standard version isn’t specifically well-aged (unlike the vellagret variant, which matures for at least 12 months).  It’s not as pungent as sharper cheeses but offers a balanced, approachable taste that’s great for those who enjoy subtle dairy notes without overwhelming intensity.

Uses

Edamer is highly versatile in the kitchen. In Norway, it’s a staple for open-faced sandwiches (smørbrød), as a table cheese during holidays like Christmas, or grated/shaved as a topping for breads, crackers, and warm dishes.  It melts well, making it suitable for fondues, casseroles, or simple snacks. Pair it with fruits like apples or pears, cured meats, or light beers for an enhanced experience.
