...Where we started

Our journey began in Philadelphia, PA., where we met as kids, briefly separated because of the different neighborhoods we lived in, and reconnected after joining the U.S. Navy (Everett in 1984, Monique in 1986). Figure the odds - - we hadn't seen each other since High School freshmen and miraculously run into each other thousands of miles away at a McDonald's drive through in Honolulu, Hi. In a year we were married, and had 3 beautiful children before retiring in 2006. 

 

Our Naval careers took us around the world, experiencing the vibrant cultures of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, Sudanese, Indian, Polynesian, American Samoa, Australian, and many others. Although neither of our careers had anything to do with culinary; (Monique an Executive Administrator and myself an IT geek), we LOVED cooking together and watching others enjoy our foods. For years our friends, family, neighbors and strangers would say "you guys should start a food service business."

After much prayer, and investing much of our savings, we launchedSpain's Smokehouse BBQ Catering 2009. Quickly we built a solid customer base with BIG taste buds, specific nutritional requirements and a love for our foods. Our largest clients were Hospitals, Clinics, Dental Offices, Schools, and they constantly asked what kinds of seasonings were used to make our foods taste so good. So we"Put it in a bottle" and launched Spain's Spices

 

We were targeting a specific flavor profile and was pretty confident it didn't exist on grocery store shelves, so we literally began mixing seasonings in a bowl in our kitchen; which initially included Sugar and a higher Sodium content.  Most of our clinical clients and many regulars began asking if it was possible to produce the same great tasting meals with less or no sugar and a much lower sodium content. So out came the Sugar and we lowered the Sodium nearly 50%. Naturally this scared the crap out of us because it completely changed the flavor of the seasoning. Frantically, we consulted local spice and blending professionals, creating multiple recipe prototypes and learning how to make a GREAT product without losing what our dedicated followers loved. 

 

After relentless study of the herbs and spices, consulting industry professionals, and smartly investing in ingredient experimentation's to find to the perfect balance of a healthy blend, and "Go-to-Market"manufacturing went into full swing. We are so excited and confident these products will place our company in a category difficult to match in the Gourmet Seasonings market.

We prayed, God did what he always does and before we knew it, we had a consistent following.People absolutely loved our seasonings! The products did so well so quickly, we expanded the line by adding new flavors, and closed our BBQ Catering company. Today, in the conversations of Blended Seasonings, we are proud to say our products are truly "Changing the Game"Our line of Seasonings are healthy enough for the strictest lifestyles yet tasty enough for daily use!
